12 Months of Health Industry Learnings in 12 Pages

In 2022, I moved to the US, hellbent on improving the healthcare system. But I had little idea how to do so. Today, I’m building Superpower.com

But it wasn’t a linear path here.

Now, I’m sharing 12 months of tactical health industry learnings.

This comes from my journey testing several key hypotheses. Throughout the process, I invested in 11 healthcare companies, chatted with 138 healthcare operators, researched 362 healthcare companies, built several health apps, and worked in a doctor’s clinic.

Note that this document contains learnings from July 2022 to July 2023. I’ve chnaged my opinions several times since.

The hypotheses tested in the document were:

Hypothesis 1: ‘Peter Attia in your pocket’

Expertise is a scarce resource. Primary care can be so much better. There’s latent demand for more aspirational healthcare. For the first time, AI makes it possible to create ‘Peter Attia in your pocket’.

Hypothesis 2: Longevity programs to gather data for disease prediction

Personalized medicine is the future. Only now is it possible to execute on personalized medicine at scale. Early adopters will pay for a high-end product that generates the data to predict and prevent disease.

Hypothesis 3: Digital twins to manage and reverse chronic disease

AI allows for a new way to manage and reverse chronic diseases. We can create a new clinical model (a ‘digital twin’) and apply it to an underserved or prevalent set of chronic diseases such as cardiometabolic diseases or autoimmune diseases.

Hypothesis 4: Shopify for digi health + primary care

Digital health is unbundling, there are an increasing number of products tailored to every condition, most of these products are building the same features and struggling with distribution. This creates a platform opportunity to provide software infrastructure, data, and distribution. Primary care is the correct platform
